With just one game left in the regular season today against the Knob Noster Panthers, Boonville Pirates baseball coach Tim Edwards couldn’t have asked for a better start to the week than last night’s 12-2 drubbing of the Southern Boone Eagles.
While the Eagles will enter Saturday’s district tournament at Boonville as the No. 4 seed, they were no match after the first inning as the Pirates reeled off 10 unanswered runs to improve to 16-2 overall.
Of course depending on today’s game against Knob Noster, Boonville also learned yesterday that with Oak Grove beating Pleasant Hill 10-9 in 10 innings they clinched the MRVC title outright with a record of 8-0.
As for the game last night, Edwards said his team hit the ball real well again.
“After a lead-off walk to Zach Hulbert, Rhett Quinlan launched a two-run home run into the trees in right field. Then, after Southern Boone answered with two in the bottom-half of the first, the Ashland pitcher again walked Will Parker to lead off the second. Jacob Davis then singled, which was followed by a sacrifice by Shawn Bruce and a RBI-single up the middle by Quinlan to score Parker,” Edwards said.
