The Boonville Pirates basketball team had one of those games last night against the Hannibal Pirates.
Having already lost at home against Hannibal, the Pirates had high hopes of evening the scored. And for the first quarter it looked like Boonville was well on its way while leading 18-14.
Unfortunately for Boonville, they had the rest of the game to contend with as Hannibal rallied back with a 31-11 scoring edge in the second and never looked back for a 83-45 victory.
While the win dropped Boonville’s record to 4-14 overall and 1-7 in the NCMC, head coach Chris Shikles said the boys came out and played well in the first quarter.
As for the scoring in the game, Jason Luster was the only player in double figures for Boonville with 12 points. He also grabbed three rebounds and one steal while dishing out two assists.
Anthony Allers finished the game with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Michael Luscombe added nine points, nine rebounds and one assist, Austin Rapp with seven points and three rebounds, Rhett Quinlan with four points, three steals and one rebound, Wes Davis with two points, one steal and one assist and Jordan Shikles with two points and two rebounds.
For Hannibal, Williams tossed in 21 points.
The Boonville boys junior varsity basketball team had a little better night against Hannibal while leading from start to finish for a 62-52 victory.
The Pirates, 10-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference, led Hannibal 16-12 after one and 33-18 at the half. However, in the third quarter, Hannibal rallied back with a 16-13 advantage to cut the lead to 12 at 46-34. Meanwhile, in the final period, Hannibal outscored Boonville again by a two-point margin 18-16 to make it a 10-point ballgame.
Holden Hinkle had the game-high for Boonville with 22 points. Austin Rapp tossed in 15, Keith Poindexter 11, Danny Rohrbough eight, Ethan Weathers four and Jalen Poindexter and Jason Thurman each with one.
For Hannibal, Pravon McBride had 13 points.
