Boonville, Mo. -

The Mid-Missouri Renegades closed out their season by traveling to the AFA State Tournament in Columbia on July 11-13.

The Lady Renegades came into the state tournament knowing that they would have to play very well against some very good competition. They ended up 0-4 by playing through to Sunday.

While opening the tournament with a doubleheader last Friday night, the Lady Renegades faced their nemesis in the Mid-Missouri Kaos.

Unfortunately for the Lady Renegades, they came out on the short end by a score of 10-0.

The Kaos led from start to finish by plating three runs in the first inning on three hits and one walk. The Kaos then scored one run in the second and six again in third to complete the scoring.

C.J. Roberts took the loss for the Lady Renegades by giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out one in three innings of play.

Roberts and Shaynelle Coleman also had the only hits for the Lady Renegades, being singles.

In the second game of the night against the Columbia Rockers, the Lady Renegades were shutout for the second time in the tournament by a score of 6-0.

Though the Lady Renegades played better in the second game, the Rockers scored two runs on three hits in the first inning and then followed it up with two runs on three hits in the third and two again in the fourth on one hit and one error.

Kayla Schmidt took the loss for the Lady Renegades and gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out one in six innings.

The Renegades had a double by Shelby Murdock and a single by Shaynelle Coleman.
Saturday evening brought the opening game in the loser’s bracket against the Kirksville Kats. Unfortunately for the Renegades, they finished on the losing end for the third straight game by a score of 6-3.

The Kats opened the scoring in the third inning with three runs on a walk and three errors and then added a run in the fourth on a walk and two errors and two again in the fifth with two hits, one walk and one error.

The Renegades didn’t go down without a fight, however. In the bottom of the sixth, the Renegades scored three runs with singles by Shelby Murdock and a double by Shaye Coleman. Devon McNeal took the loss on the mound for the Lady Renegades by giving up six runs (none earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six.
Shaye Coleman finished the game with two singles and a double while Kayla Schmidt added two singles and Kelsey Brauner, C.J. Roberts and Emily Smith with one single each.

Sunday morning and the elimination round pitted the Lady Renegades against the Mid-Missouri Kaos with the Kaos prevailing by a score of 5-2.

However it was the Renegades who opened the scoring with a single by Devon McNeal, sacrifices by Kayla Schmidt and Kelsey Brauner and a RBI-single by Emma Gonzalez.

But even that was short-lived as the Kaos scored three runs in the bottom-half of the first with three hits and two errors and two again in the second on two hits and two errors. The Renegades then closed out the scoring with their second run in the third inning on a lead-off single by McNeal, followed by an RBI-single by Kelsey Brauner.
Emma Gonzalez started the game for the Lady Renegades and took the loss by giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits and one walk in three innings. She also struck out four batters. Kayla Schmidt then came in to pitch in the fourth inning and pitched the next-three innings, giving up one hit while striking out one.

Hitting for the Lady Renegades were Devon McNeal with three singles, Emma Gonzalez with a double and Kayla Schmidt and Kelsey Brauner with one single each.
In closing out their season, the Lady Renegades finished out with a 9-15 season. They finished fourth in the Columbia USSSA Show-me Shootout. In the USSSA Mid-State Tournament, Devon McNeal finished on the USSSA Mid-State First Team, and Emma Gonzalez and Kelsey Brauner received honorable-mention.

The Renegades were also ranked 17th in the USSSA Missouri State Power ratings and 32nd in the USSSA UPS Missouri State Rankings, according to the USSSA National Website.

The Mid-Missouri Lady Renegades will hold tryouts for the spring and summer 2009 season. Beginning their third season, they will be expanding to a 16U as well as an 18U team depending on the number of girls trying out.
