LSE boys and girls win big against Versailles

The LSE boys and girls eighth grade basketball teams ventured to Versailles last night for two games and both came home winners by beating the Tigers by the scores of 48-29 and 41-29, respectively.

The Lady Hawks, improving to 6-3 on the season, actually trailed Versailles to start the game by a score of 12-7. However over the next-three periods, LSE outscored the Lady Tigers 34-17 to win the game by 12.

LSE coach Emily Allsop said the girls made a lot of careless mistakes during the first half. “We did things better in the second,” Allsop said.

Paige Peterson, Sydnee Poindexter and Millie Moyer each had 11 points in the game for LSE.

Poindexter also finished the game with six rebounds, four steals and two assists while Peterson had five rebounds, four steals and one assist and Moyer with four rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Whitney Bush chipped in four points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal while Anna Nelson added two points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist, Kelsi Dillender with two points, two assists, one rebound and one steal and Kaleigh Schaefer with one steal and one assist.

The Lady Hawks also finished the game hitting on 19 of 41 shots from the field for 46 percent and 2 of 5 from the foul line for 40 percent.

For Versailles, Maddy Hibdon had 14 points and Ali Lent with four.

As for the LSE boys, they led Versailles from start to finish while going up 14-3 after one, 27-11 at the half and 44-19 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, the Tigers outscored LSE 10-4.

LSE coach Terry Luster said the boys played well early and kept the momentum going their way. “We passed the ball better and got good shots,” Luster said. “We are starting to play with more confidence.”

Tavious Brazil had 24 points in the game for LSE, who improved to 3-6 on the season. Alec Adair chipped in 10, Logan Parks eight, Leland Minnis and Christian Burns two each and Weston Fahrenbrink and Brett Dillender with one point apiece.

Versailles was led by Austin Crowe with 16.
