After almost a year of researching and numerous trips to schools with an all-weather track and turf, the Boonville R-I School Board voted 6-1 last Wednesday to make it happen by awarding the bid to ATG Sports Industries, Inc. for the 2009-10 school year.
With home track meets cancelled this year due to the condition of the track, the Boonville R-1 School Board acted without hesitation that something needed to be done. And with the addition of soccer in 2007 and Hannah Cole Elementary nearing completion at the high school, the board decided to go ahead with the project at a cost of $987,400, which will be paid back over eight years with an interest rate of 4.2 percent. This brings the district an annual payment of $150,000 per year.
Boonville Superintendent Mark Ficken said in a prepared statement: “As many of you know, the existing sports complex is nearing 30 years old. While it has served the purpose of a useful and functional facility for many years, time has taken a toll on the overall safety and ability to serve the district. We are grateful to those who donated time, effort, and money to the original complex, and will continue to honor those individuals with the plaque displayed in the BHS commons.”
