Boonville Junior Legion second baseman Shane Fletcher appears to have the tag down in plenty of time on a steal attempt in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday at Twillman Field in Harley Park. For the Boonville Junior Legion baseball team, the game last night against Macon was all about getting a split in a doubleheader at Twillman Field in Harley Park.

After dropping the first game by a score of 7-1, Boonville came back and accomplished their goal by beating Macon in the second game 2-1.

Of course after getting swept earlier in the week by Sedalia, Boonville probably had to be thinking deja vu after against Macon giving up two runs in the first, four again in the second and one in the third. As for Boonville, they scored their only run of the ballgame in the bottom-half of the first on two errors.

Macon also out-hit Boonville 7-1, with Miller going 2-for-4 with two doubles. Clapp, meanwhile, finished the game with a single, triple and two RBIs.

Kenny Edwards, meanwhile, came off the bench in the seventh for Boonvile’s only hit of the game with a single to center.

In the second game, Macon and Boonville played to a scoreless tie for the first-four innings. Meanwhile, after Macon plated one run in the top-half of the fifth on one walk, a single by Yount and a RBI-single by Miller, Boonville came back and tied the game in the bottom-half of the inning when Stephen Bowers reach on an error and scored on the RBI-single by Chad Oser.

Then, after holding Macon scoreless in its half of the sixth, Boonville came back and tacked on another run in the bottom-half of the inning when Hank Welborn led off with a single, advanced to second on the walk to Sam Mendez and then scored on the RBI by Zach Huckabey.

Hank Welborn picked up the win on the mound for Boonville by pitching 2 2/3 innings in relief of starter Blake Shrout.

Zach Huckabey and Chad Oser each had a single and one RBI in the game for Boonville while Will Parker and Hank Welborn added one single each.

Boonville’s Junior Legion baseball team closed out the season at 2-5 overall.
