Pilot Grove coach Landon Daniel said the girls went into the game knowing that St. Pauls liked to shoot and that if they wanted to compete and come out with a win they were going to have to shoot and work the ball inside.
“It was a back and forth matchup all night and it seemed like every time one team put a run on, the other would match it with one of their own,” Daniel said. “Hailey Bader stepped up and really focused on being a presence inside and then we had two bench players in Kellie Dillner and Randi Kellerman that stepped in and gave our team added defense and hit 12 points between the two of them. A great game to be a part of and it being only our third home game all year made it that much sweeter of a victory. We need to take this momentum and build on it as we start CCAA conference games on Friday against Higbee and then Otterville next Tuesday.”
Hailey Bader had the game-high for Pilot Grove with 21 points along with eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Pilot Grove coach Rick Grunden said St. Pauls always has a lot of weapons. “Their weapons, combined with a poor night shooting, didn’t make for a very successful game on our end,” Grunden said. “We did a fair job of working the ball to get a decent shot, but in the end we had so many shots that just would not fall. I know my boys felt frustrated by that and our own frustration took us out of the game even more. We will work between now and then to prepare for a pesky team in Higbee on Friday.”
