Boonville, Mo. -

The Boonville Pirates soccer team may have come up on the short end last night against Hannibal by a score of 6-0. But if you consider that Boonville only trailed 1-0 at the half against a more experienced Hannibal team, head coach Tim Brown  said it was a decent match for about 60 minutes.

What happened after that is anybodys guess as Brown said his team completely derailed, allowing three goals in a matter of three minutes at the 64th, 65th and 67th minute, after only being down 1-0 and eventually falling to Hannibal by six goals.

“I thought we played extremely tight, organized defense with plenty of communication for three quarters of the game, and we even created a couple of goal-scoring opportunities,” Brown said, “but as the professionals might say, ‘we are lacking quality in the final third.’” Translation-when they are near the opponent’s goal, and it’s time to protect the ball and make crisp, clean passes and creative runs, we do not yet have the skill, composure, or creativity to get the job done. But they are getting there.”

The Pirates were close last night, at least for a half while giving up the only goal at the 14th minute. However, in the second half, Hannibal came back with five more goals at the 64th, 65th, 67th, 73rd and 75th minute to win the game.

Hannibal also finished the game with 22 shots on goals and 58 shot attempts compared to no shots on goal and no shots for Boonville. Hannibal also shutout the Pirates on corner kicks 10-0. As for fouls in the game, Hannibal had 10 compared to just seven for Boonville. Hannibal also had the only booking in the game at the 40th minute.
