Boonville —
When Relay for Life Race Director Tina Smith started the 5K run/walk in Boonville three years ago, little did she know that it would grow to the point of being one of the biggest if not the biggest race in Boonville.
With 55 contestants participating in last year’s run walk, Smith said the numbers were up 25 this year with 70 taking part during the Heritage Days weekend on Saturday, June 26th.
Spencer Engel, of Columbia, was the top male winner this year with a time of 19 minutes, 54 seconds. Erich Gerding, of New Franklin, finished second in a time of 22 minutes, 20 seconds, while Mark Spiezio, of Boonville, placed third in a time of 25 minutes, 50 seconds.
Shelby Lang, of Boonville, was the top female winner with a time of 23 minutes, 5 seconds. Jennifer Elwell, also of Boonville, finished second in a time of 24 minutes, 5 seconds, while Kris Stodgel, of Boonville, took third in a time of 27 minutes, 2 seconds.
The top-three walkers were David Bruce, of Boonville, in 37 minutes, 50 seconds, Helen Bruce, of Boonville, in 38 minutes, 53 seconds, and Kevin Brownfield, of Boonville, in 46 minutes, 26 seconds.
