If it seems like the Boonville boys junior varsity basketball team has deja vu against the Fulton Hornets, it may have something to do with playing the Hornets for the third time last night in the opening round of the Mexico JV Tournament.

After dropping the first-two games by eight and six points, the Pirates appeared to be well on their way to ending the streak while leading 29-18 at the half. However a 21-3 scoring edge by the Hornets in the third quarter proved to be the difference in a 50-44 loss.

In the only other game last night, Mexico defeated North Callaway 49-24. Fulton and Mexico will play for the title tonight starting at 7:30 p.m. while Boonville and North Callaway will battle for the third-place trophy at 6.

The Pirates definitely executed in the first-two periods while leading Fulton 19-10 after one and 29-18 at the half. However the second half was a different story as the Hornets rallied back with a 21-3 advantage to go up 39-32. Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter, Boonville outscored Fulton 12-11.

Blake Calvin had 13 points to lead all scorers for Fulton.

For Boonville, who dropped to 10-6, Keith Poindexter and Holden Hinkle each had 11 points. Austin Rapp chipped in 10 while Ethan Weathers added five, Jalen Poindexter four and Damario Walker, Jason Thurman and Wes Davis each with one.
