Boonville’s Jason Luster, Mackenzie Greis and Heather English would have gladly given up their selections in the North Central Missouri Conference for a chance to play in the finals of the Class 4 District 8 Tournament last week at Moberly Area Community College.
While the Boonville boys fell in the opening round against Hannibal, the Lady Pirates played one more game in the tournament by losing to the top-seeded Moberly Spartans in the semifinal round.
As it turned out, the Moberly boys and girls wound up winning the conference championship with the Lady Spartans finishing 12-0 and the Moberly boys 11-1.
In the final-team standings for the girls, Mexico finished second at 10-2, followed by Kirksville at 8-4, Boonville fourth at 6-6, Marshall and Fulton tied for fifth at 3-9 and Hannibal in last place at 0-12.
For the boys, Fulton and Mexico tied for second at 8-4, followed by Hannibal and Marshall in a two-way tie for fourth at 5-7, Kirksville fifth at 4-8 and Boonville in last place at 1-11.
Moberly’s Brennan Hughes was also the top vote getter for the boys, while English led the voting for the girls.
