The Pilot Grove boys basketball team made it look almost too easy last night in the opening round of the Tipton Tournament.

While playing their first game in the tournament last night, the Tigers led Chamois from start to finish for a 70-42 victory.

Of course Pilot Grove will have to put last night’s win aside for the time being with another game tonight against Smithton starting at 6 p.m.

The Tigers showed little if any mercy last night while leading Chamois 17-4 after one, 40-20 at the half and 58-36 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Pilot Grove outscored Chamois 12-6 for the victory.

Junior Zach Glenn finished the game with a double-double figure Pilot Grove, who improved to 2-0 on the season, with 24 points and 20 rebounds.

As for the Pilot Grove girls, they also had a great start against top-seeded Smithton while leading 10-7 after one and 25-19 at the half. However it was all downhill from that point on for the Lady Tigers, who were outscored 36-19 in the final-two periods to suffer a 55-44 loss.

Smithton’s Brittney Hotsenpiller had the game-high with 19 points.

For Pilot Grove, who dropped to 2-1 on the season, Whitney Wessing finished the game with 15 points along with three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
