The LSE Pirates seventh and eighth grade football team entered Tuesday night’s game undefeated against the Eldon Mustangs.
However only one team came away still unbeaten on the season as the eighth grade defeated Eldon 34-0 in only one half of play. The seventh grade team fell against Eldon 14-0.
LSE Pirates football coach Curtis Walk said the kids are really playing well. “They are exciting to watch,” Walk said of the eighth grade team. “Our kids are ready for Saturday. We play Hallsville, who is undefeated as well and our kids can’t wait.”
Despite just playing one half of football, the LSE Pirates eighth grade team put up 20 points in the first quarter and then scored two touchdowns in the second quarter.
Owen Armentrout led the Pirates with four carries for 64 yards and one touchdown along with one touchdown return on the opening kick off for 72 yards.
Colby Caton finished the game with three carries for 46 yards and one touchdown along with one reception for 42 yards and one score and one two-point conversion. Mike Deleon had two carries for 44 yards and one score while Ethan Watson added four carries for 42 yards and one score and Caleb Martin five carries for 36 yards and one two-point conversion. Quarterback Jackson Johns completed 1 of 2 passes for 42 yards and one touchdown.
On defense, Caton led the Pirates with four solo stops and three assisted tackles. Tyson Ellison and Trent Maxwell each had  three solo stops and one sack while Armentrout added two solo stops and one interception for a 10 yard return, Johns with one solo stop and two assisted tackles and Conner Acton and Trevonte Harris Quint each with two solo sops.
As for the seventh grade team, Walk said the kids battled all night. “It’s hard to win a game in the rain with five turnovers,” Walk said. “Our defense really played well.”
After a scoreless first half, Eldon got on the board in the third quarter with a touchdown and then added another score and two point conversion in the fourth quarter.
Dakota Troost led the rushing attack for LSE with 12 carries for 75 yards and two catches for 22 yards.
Xavier Flippin finished the game with seven carries for 26 yards while Rhodes Leonard added four carries for 25 yards.
Tyson White completed 3 of 9 passes in the game for 42 yards while Will Stock had two catches for 20 yards.
On defense for the Pirates, Flippin had four solo stops and three assisted tackles. Stock finished the game with six solo stops while Troost had three solo stops and three assisted tackles, Lawson Edwards three solo stops and two assisted tackles, Eli Stock two solo stops and two assisted tackles, Abram Taylor three solos and one sack and Rhodes Leonard with two solos.
