The Ss. Peter & Paul volleyball team finished second over the weekend in the “Clash of the Catholics” Tournament in Boonville.
While finishing the tournament with a record of 2-2-1, head coach Dina Herzog said the girls played at their level throughout and worked as a team.
“Jeff City brought two teams that were very talented,” Herzog said. “Although we had already played OLLIS I knew they were good competition, but the girls played well.”
In pool play, Ss. Peter & Paul fell in two straight sets against St. Peter Jeff City White 16-25 and 19-25. Then, after beating OLLIS 25-14 and 25-14, the Lady Warriors came back and split with Jeff City’s seventh grade, winning the first set 25-22 and dropping the second 21-25. Meanwhile, after finishing third in pool play at 3-3, Ss. Peter & Paul came back to beat St. Peter of Jeff City in two straight 25-20 and 25-15. However in the championship match, the Lady Warriors fell to St. Peter-White again in straight sets 11-25 and 12-25.
Abby Fuemmeler led the Lady Warriors with 23 assists along with 22 service points with six aces, 13 digs, 12 kills and one block.
Madison Smith finished the tournament with 25 digs along with 24 kills, 18 service points with seven aces and two blocks while Addie Hubach added 28 service points with nine aces, 16 digs and five kills, Kylee Turner with 18 digs, 11 service points with two aces, nine assists and seven kills, Zoey Lang with 14 kills, 12 digs and seven service points with three aces, Jordyn Fuemmeler with 14 digs, 10 service points with six aces and two kills, Katelyn Smith with 12 kills, three digs and one block and Alison Eichelberger with one dig.
