The New Franklin Bulldogs baseball team played its best game to date by beating the Silex Owls 8-6 Tuesday night in New Franklin.
The Bulldogs, improving to 1-4 on the season, trailed Silex 5-2 after 2 1/2 before rallying back with four runs in the third and two again in the fourth to go up 8-5. Meanwhile, after a scoreless fifth inning, Silex made it interesting by tacking on another run in the sixth.
“I liked the way we started the game,” said New Franklin coach Erich Gerding. “Koy Harris gave us a solid first and we turn around and score two in the bottom half. We saw some better approaches offensively, but our outfield defense let us down a bit tonight. Gavin came in and did a great job for us. Great to get a win.”
Gavin Bishop picked up the win in relief for New Franklin by pitching four innings and giving up just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Koy Harris started the game and pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one. Jackson Dorson then came in and pitched 1/3 inning and surrendered one hit. Then, before Bishop took the mound, Andy Neal pitched one inning and issued two runs on one hit and one walk.
Bishop also led the hitting attack for New Franklin with a single, double and two RBIs. Colten Collyott and Andy Neal each had two singles while Dustin Mehrhoff added one double and two RBIs, Zac Held with one single and two RBIs and Crayton Gallatin with one single.
