The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team played Fayette to a 2-0 ballgame for four innings Tuesday night at Fayette but then the bottom fell out as the Falcons exploded for eight runs in the fifth for a 10-0 victory.
While the loss dropped New Franklin to 1-6 on the season, head coach Ross Dowell said his team is very young that has to learn how to compete for seven inning. “With a rough early schedule we need to do a lot of things better,” Dowell said. “We left eight runners on and could not get the big hit. The fifth inning was another story. Led off the inning with an error and a busted sacrifice and then got two out but could not get the third out before they scored runs.”
Jordyn Ball picked up the win in the circle for Fayette while Lindsay Brown took the loss for New Franklin. In five innings, Ball struck out six batters and gave up three hits and three walks. Brown, meanwhile, pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed 10 runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three.
Kayce Hundley had the only extra base hit in the ballgame for New Franklin, being a double. Lauren Evans and Madelyn Chaney each had one single.
