Alexia Sprick threw a one hit shutout, and teammates Lauren Evans and Madelyn Chaney each had two hits to lead the New Franklin Lady Bulldogs past Slater Thursday night in CAC action at New Franklin 20-0.
The Lady Bulldogs, improving to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the CAC, opened the game with 13 runs in the bottom half of the first and then sent seven runs across in the second to win by the mercy rule.
As for Sprick, the sophomore hurler pitched all three innings and struck out two batters while giving up just one hit and one walk.
Evans finished the game with a single, triple and three RBIs in the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Chaney had two singles and two RBIs while Abby Maupin added one single and one RBI.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said his team got off to a good start against Slater. “Great way to start the conference with a win,” Dowell said. “I thought Alexia threw a good game.”
