Shelter Insurance missed a sweep by one run in New Franklin Little League Softball.
While beating GKC-CPA’s 11-7 in the opening game, Shelter Insurance fell in the next game against Exchange Bank by a score of 11-10.
In the game against GKC-CPA’s, Shelter Insurance exploded for six runs right out of the gates only to have GKC-CPA’s rally back with two in the bottom half of the second to cut the lead to four. Then, after Shelter Insurance plated another run in the third and four again in the fifth to go up 11-2, GKC-CPA’s rallied back with two in the bottom half of the fifth and three in the sixth to cut the lead back to four.
Sophia Held and Rylee Mehrhoff led the hitting attack in the game for Shelter Insurance with three singles each.
Canna Jennings finished the game with one single and one double while Lily Chitwood and Alivia Holstun added two singles each, Natalie Frey with one double and Natalie Curry, Hazel Roth, Huntir Lyons and Annabelle Lair each with one single.
For GKC-CPA’s, Heaven Lee Hundley doubled while Lydia Burnett, Justice Singleton, Gracie Martin and Korinna Chitwood each singled.
In the second game, Shelter Insurance again jumped out on top while leading Exchange Bank 5-3 after one and 6-3 after 1 1/2. However, in the bottom half of the second, Exchange Bank rallied back with six runs to go up 9-6. Then, in the top half of the third, Shelter Insurance stormed back with four runs to regain the lead at 10-9 only to have Exchange Bank score two in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
Faith Painter was the winning pitcher in the game for Exchange Bank while Lily Chitwood took the loss for Shelter Insurance. Ella Oser started the game for Exchange Bank and gave up eight runs on one hit and eight walks while striking out one batter in one inning. Painter then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on six walks while striking out one batter.
Painter also homered in the game for Exchange Bank while Lilly Washburn singled.
For Shelter Insurance, Lily Chitwood had one single.
