Bigger doesn’t always mean better unless you are talking about the Eighth Annual Gene Reagan Scholarship Tournament Saturday at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville.
With 34 teams, or 102 golfers competing during the 18 hole tournament, the team of Rapp, Nolte and Skelton just so happened to be the last group standing after firing a 14 under par 57 on the par 71 course.
Gene Reagan, former football coach at Boonville High School, said the money raised from the tournament will go towards a scholarship for a male and recipient each year for $1,000. Gabe Rumbaoa and Brynn Edwards were the recipients this year.
“It’s tough,” Reagan said of the scholarship recipients who are voted on each year. “They must have a 3.00 GPA and lettered in two varsity sports their junior and senior year.”
What was also tough was deciding on runner ups and third place finishers in each flight.  After Rapp, Nolte and Skelton in championship flight, the team of Speck, Mouins and Burks won a scorecard playoff over the team of Reagan, Reagan and Riehn. Both teams shot a 13-under par 58.
In B flight, the team of Silvey, Silvey and Alreafe won a scorecard playoff on No. 17 over the team of Watts, Strange and Hennefent after both teams finished their rounds with a 9-under par 62.
The team of Richey, Davis and Moen, meanwhile, finished third only one stroke back with a 8 under par 63.
In C flight, the team of Steinbrueck, Steinbrueck and Steinbrueck finished 4 under with a score of 67 to place first in that flight.
The team of Fisher, Harris and Cooper finished second after a scorecard playoff on No. 7 over the team of Riborer, Broderson and Bowus after firing rounds of 68.
