New Franklin’s Jordan Leighton brought home the only first place medal for the Lady Bulldogs during the Westran Relays last Thursday in Huntsville.
Leighton took first in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.35 seconds and then came back to place fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 55.16 seconds.
Senior Madison Matney finished second in the shot put with a toss of 32’-7 1/4” and third in the discus with a throw of 84’-8”.
Davi Smith also took second in the high jump with a jump of 4’-8”. Meanwhile, in the 4 x 100-meter relay and placing third with a time of 55.88 seconds was the team of Leighton, Matney, Smith and Nicole Blumer.
As for the New Franklin boys, the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Tyler Perkins, Jordan Peterman, Kolby Anson and David Brucks finished third in a time of 4:07.62.
New Franklin coach Adam Quest said for the first time all season, the Bulldogs finally had some good weather for the Westran Relays. “The good weather really showed in our performances, especially with our sprints, we had by far the best times of the season,” Quest said. “Our best performance of the day came from senior Jordan Leighton. She may have had the best day of her career. She came from nowhere and won the 100-meter dash with a new personal best time of 13.35. She followed that up with a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing fifth.”
