On March 6, athletes involved in winter sports programs at BHS congregated in Windsor Gymnasium to receive awards and recognition from their coaches, family, and friends.
In addition to junior varsity and varsity letters, select athletes were given Pirate Pride awards, an honor given to athletes who go above and beyond in each of their sports. Abby Arnette, coach of the cheer squad, awarded senior Claire Grissum her Pirate Pride award, and Chelsea Cox, coach of the dance team, awarded her Pirate Pride award to senior Angelina Hein. “I’m so honored to have gotten the Pirate Pride award this year! I wasn’t expecting it because there’s so many deserving girls on our team. These past four seasons have been so great, and I’m so excited to see how far Boonville’s dance team will grow in the future!” shared Angelina Hein.
Coach Jaryt Hunziker gave out two Pirate Pride awards to the girls’ basketball team; one was given to senior Kate Peterson and the other was awarded to junior Jamie Lemmons. For boys’ basketball, Coach Jesse Oswald gave his Pirate Pride award to senior Avery Reardon. Lastly, Coach Christian Stock awarded senior wrestler Gabe Rumbaoa the last Pirate Pride award of the evening. All recipients were honored to receive their awards.
Overall, the evening was memorable for all involved. The event was a sentimental time for athletes and coaches as they told their senior teammates goodbye and celebrated the time they spent together as well as the successes of the season.
