The Boonslick YMCA Wrestling Team had a weekend to remember after placing six out of eight members at the State Tournament in Sedalia on Saturday, Jan. 27th.
Boonslick YMCA wrestling coach Joey Bishop said he was very proud of all the wrestlers, which consist of many first and second year wrestlers. “I know when each one of them stepped out on the mat they’re going to give everything they have the entire match,” Bishop said. “The talent that they have amazes me. With all the great coaches that help out, the sky is the limit for the boys.”
Layne Rapp, who competed in the 8U, 55 pound weight class, finished first in his division with four wins.
Xavier Cantrell placed second in the 6U, 52 pound weight class with a record or 3-1 while Bradley Bishop and Cole Pickens both took third with a record of 5-1 at 6U, 64 pounds and 8U, 70 pounds, respectively.
Fifth place finishers were Kyran Turner with a record of 3-2 in the 8U, 75 pound weight class and Brady Norbury with a record of 2-2 in the 10U, 75 pound weight class.
Brayden Keys also went 2-2 in the tournament while Kale West gave it all he had while finishing 0-2.
Joey Bishop is the head coach for the Boonslick YMCA Wrestling team. His assistants are Louis Stock, Jesse Grant, Josh Keys, Adam Cantrell, James Briggs, and Kyle Newham.
