The Ss. Peter & Paul girls eighth grade basketball team capped off a perfect season at 18-0 by capturing the championship in the Sedalia Sacred Heart Tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Warriors, who finished the season at 18-0, opened tournament play earlier in the week by beating Stover 45-21. Meanwhile, in the second round on Friday, Ss. Peter & Paul defeated Northwest 41-8. Then, in the championship game on Saturday, the Lady Warriors led Sacred Heart from start to finish en route to a 46-17 victory.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Sarah Ronnfeldt said everyone contributed in this tournament.
“I thought the girls did a good job of moving the ball and controlling the tempo of the game against both Northwest and Sacred Heart,” Ronnfeldt said. “We kept Sacred Heart off of the boards and that is always important when we don’t have the size on our side. Our eighth grade team finished the season at 18-0 and our seventh grade finished at 12-3. Both teams had a great season. They were a great group of girls to work with.”
In the game against Northwest, the Lady Warriors led 28-2 at the half and 34-6 after three quarters of play.
Emma West led all scorers for Ss. Peter & Paul with 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Addi Brownfield finished the game with 13 points, eight steals, six rebounds and six assists while Grace Williams added eight points and four rebounds, Zoey Lang with three points and five boards, Alyssa Fitzgerald with one point and two rebounds, Olivia Eichelberger two steals and one assist, Lillian Rohrbach one rebound, one steal and one assist, Hailey James two rebounds, Leah Ziegelbein two steals and Abby Fuemmeler with one rebound.
