The LSE Lady Pirates basketball team improved to 5-8 on the season by beating the Fulton Hornets 33-31 last Thursday in Boonville.
The Lady Pirates never trailed in the game against Fulton and led 13-2 after one, 18-7 at the half and 24-17 after three quarters of play.  Fulton, meanwhile, outscored LSE 14-9 in the final period to cut the lead to two.
LSE coach Kaitlyn Nelson said the game was a tough game. “We were able to play good defense as a team and make our free throws in the fourth quarter,” Nelson said.
Kyleigh Thacker had 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals to lead LSE. Faith Mesik finished the game with 11 points, seven rebounds, five steals and two assists while Nora Morris added eight points, five rebounds and three assists, Anna Thompson one point and six rebounds, Madison Henderson three steals, two rebounds and one assist and Katera Bonaparte with three steals.
Totta had the high game for Fulton with 11 points.
In the seventh grade game, Fulton defeated LSE 34-17.
The Lady Pirates, dropping to 0-9 on the season, trailed Fulton 19-6 at the half and 25-12 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the fourth, Fulton outscored LSE 9-5.
LSE coach Susie Stone said the first half the girls did not handle the full-court pressure of Fulton’s defense and then when they did they did not execute offensively by setting screens and attack the offensive glass for second shot opportunities. “Defensively we did not block out and let Fulton have multiple shot chances on offense. The second half we played better but we just had too much ground to catch up.”
Andrea Totts had 14 to lead all scores for Fulton.
For LSE, Molly Schuster finished the game with five points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Kenley Fox chipped in four points, three steals and two rebounds while Hope Chambers added four points, Carlie Bishop two points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists, Heather Hall two points, four rebounds and one steal, Addy Ward three rebounds, Hailee Williams one rebound, one steal and one assist and Anatasia Butler and Natalie Page each with two rebounds.
