Lady Pirates improve to 3-1 on the season, will play Sturgeon in semis on Wednesday

Boonville Lady Pirates basketball coach Jaryt Hunziker could have easily talked about the offense Monday night in the opening round of the Centralia Invitational Tournament.
Instead, Hunziker focused on the defense as the Lady Pirates held No. 8 Hallsville to just 12 points in the first half and one field goal in the second quarter en route to a 61-38 victory.
“The intensity and effort wasn’t there in the third quarter, where, we allowed Hallsville to actually outscore us 16-15,” Hunziker said. “Offensively we had three girls in double digits.”
Aside from the third quarter, the Lady Pirates dominated Hallsville just like a No. 1 seed should versus an eighth seed while leading 33-12 at the half and 50-28 after three quarters of play. Boonville also outscored Hallsville 11-10 in the final period.
As for the scoring in the game, junior Jalyn Schnetzler led three players in double figures for the game with 14 points along with six rebounds, five steals and two assists.

The Lady Pirates also finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field and 77 percent from the foul line but were only 1 of 8 from the three-point arc for 13 percent.
For Hallsville, Proctor had 11 points, Jone nine and Hicks eight.
