The Ss. Peter & Paul girls eighth grade basketball team moved to 5-0 on the season by turning back Slater Thursday night in Slater 53-10.
As for the Ss. Peter & Paul boys, they defeated the Wildcats by a score of 39-24.
The Lady Warriors never trailed in the game against Slater and outscored the Wildcats 33-4 in the first two periods and 20-6 in the second half.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Sarah Ronnfeldt said this was a real team effort tonight.
“Everyone played very unselfishly,” Ronnfeldt said. “Everyone on the team scored and contributed to the win.  The girls worked hard right out of the gate.  Defensively I think we played the best that we have had all year.  Lillian Rohrbach was really anticipating the ball well on defense and ended the game with 9 steals.”
Addi Brownfield hit the double digit mark again for the Lady Warriors with 21 points along with five steals, two rebounds and one assist.
Emma West finished the game with 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals and one assist while Alyssa Fitzgerald added six points, five rebounds and one steal, Olivia Eichelberger four points, four assists and two rebounds, Lillian Rohrbach two points, nine steals and one rebound, Hailey James two points and four rebounds and Zoey Lang with two points, one rebound and one steal.
For the Ss. Peter & Paul boys, they also led from the opening tip against Slater. Outscoring the Wildcats 22-6 after the first-two periods, Ss. Peter & Paul came out and held a 10-7 advantage in the third to extend the lead to 32-13. Meanwhile, in the fourth, Slater put up 11 points while holding the Warriors to seven.
“We came out with much better intensity on defense getting our hands on balls which transitioned into points on the other end for us,” Herzog said.  “I think the boys are starting to catch on to the idea of offense starts on the defensive end.  We worked on boxing out and stressing the idea of finding someone and denying them the rebound.  Having 27 rebounds in this game versus 7 in our last shows that they are capable.  Overall we moved the ball well enough on offense to get the defense out of position giving us good looks at baskets.  A good away victory as we come home to get ready for LSE/SSPP tournament.”
Luke Green had 19 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists to lead Ss. Peter & Paul.
Memphis Waibel tossed in six points, three steals, one rebound and one assist while Austin Coleman added five points, eight rebounds and one assist, Colby Caton five points and one rebound, Nash McKenzie two points, six rebounds and two steals, Zane Watring two points and one steal and Avery Shaw with four rebounds.
Slater was led by Hechavarria with 15 points.
