The LSE Lady Pirates seventh and eighth grade basketball teams fell on the road Tuesday night at Mexico, losing to the Lady Bulldogs by the scores of 39-9 and 44-14, respectively.
In the seventh grade game, the Lady Pirates trailed Mexico 13-4 at the half and 27-6 after three quarters of play. Mexico also held a 12-3 advantage in the final period.
LSE coach Susie Stone said the girls did not block out well and allowed Mexico too many multiple shot opportunities on the offensive glass. “We have to continue to work on being more aggressive on defense and game awareness,” Stone said. “We continued to fight for four quarters, and we did handle the ball better at times on the perimeter. We just need to be able to move the ball and attack the basket. We took more shots tonight at the basket.”
Brittany Willer had the game-high for Mexico with 14 points.
For LSE, Carlie Bishop finished the game with four points, four rebounds and two steals.
Heather Hall and Kenley Fox each had two points and three rebounds while Natalie Page added one point and three rebounds, Addy Ward with four rebounds and two steals, Molly Schuster with four rebounds, Kasie Northern with two rebounds and Hailee Williams with one rebound.
As for the LSE girls eighth grade basketball team, they also fought a uphill battle while trailing Mexico 8-4 after one, 18-10 at the half and 32-14 after three quarters of play. The Lady Bulldogs also held a 12-0 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
LSE eighth grade coach Kaitlyn Nelson said the girls played a strong four quarters despite foul trouble. “I already see the girls progressing from our first game and we are improving every day,” Nelson said.
Faith Mesik had the high game for LSE with five points along with two rebounds and one steal.
Kyleigh Thacker finished the game with two points, three rebounds and two steals while Katera Bonaparte added two points, two rebounds and one steal, Nora Morris with two points, one rebound and one steal, Grace Dennis with 10 rebounds and one steal, Madison Henderson with two rebounds and one steal and Anna Thompson with two rebounds.
