Prairie Home senior Sage Eichenburch made history last Saturday by placing 14th at the Class 1 District 2 Cross-Country Meet at Bowling Green.
Not only did Eichenburch qualify for the state meet this coming weekend in Jefferson City, he did so by setting a personal record by over 30 seconds to finish in a time of 18:57.21.
Joseph Rethemeyer of New Haven had the winning time at the meet in 17:05.51.
Of course Eichenburch wasn’t the only runner for the Panthers. Prairie Home coach Marie Pope said freshman Allen Haslag finished 39th out of 50 runners by knocking over a minute off his personal best with a time of 31:57.93.
Pope said the team of only two boys has proved that they are more than capable of competing with bigger schools.
“Allen displayed impressive dedication and hard work which showed through a PR of over 1 minute during districts,” Pope said. “I'm so impressed that a freshman would come in for their first year ready to take on any challenge without a single complaint. Sage has been an invaluable leader throughout the season. He has worked really hard this season to improve, and will be celebrating his success at state this weekend. I'm so excited to see what he can accomplish and so proud of everything he's accomplished so far.”
