New Franklin’s Sam Ridgeway and Tyler Perkins didn’t need to be told where the finish line was last Thursday during the annual Moberly Invitational Cross-Country Meet at Howard Hills Athletic Complex.
While competing against a field of over 80 runners in the varsity race, Ridgeway finished 32nd overall in a time of 20:01.82 while Perkins placed 36th in a time of 20:11.59.
Isaac Ashton of Tipton had the fastest time in the race in 17:03.55.
Meanwhile, in the JV girls race, freshman Mallori Burnett continues to shine after placing first overall in a time of 24:09.20.
In the JV boys race, meanwhile, Hayden Wiseman finished eighth overall in a time of 21:06.10 while Asa Fischer placed 18th overall in a time of 22:26.50.
Jeren Fox of Mexico had the fastest time for the JV boys in 19:14.20.
New Franklin coach Adam Quest said it was great to finally have a meet where the heat wasn't an issue.
“The weather was perfect for running, and the times definitely reflected that,” Quest said. “Four of the five competing athletes set either a personal best or season best time.  Sam and Tyler ran a very competitive race.  They competed very hard throughout the race, and both passed several other boys in the final stretch of the race.
“We also had some outstanding results in the JV race.  For the third time this season, Mallori Burnett won the JV girls race.  Mallori does much better in the cooler temperatures, and she had a great race at Moberly.  Also receiving a medal in the JV boys race was Hayden Wiseman.  Hayden received eighth place, and completely demolished his old personal record.  As we head in to the final stretch of the season, I am looking forward to seeing how everyone competes against schools our size."
Prairie Home senior Sage Eichenburch dropped another seven seconds off his personal best to finish second in the Calvary Lutheran Invitational last Saturday in Jefferson City in a time of 19 minutes and 30 seconds.
