The Bunceton Dragons baseball team picked up where they left off last week after finishing second in the CCAA Tournament in Jamestown by beating Calvary Lutheran Monday night in Jefferson City by a score of 9-2.
The Dragons, improving to 9-2 on the season, scored at least one run in five out of the seven innings against Calvary Lutheran to lead 1-0 after one, 4-0 after three, 5-1 after five and 7-1 after six before adding two more runs in the seventh to go up 7-1. Meanwhile, in the bottom-half of the seventh, Calvary Lutheran would tack on another run to end the scoring.
Blake Petsel picked up the win on the mound for Bunceton while Salmons took the loss for Calvary Lutheran. Petsel pitched the first-five innings and struck out eight batters while giving up one run on six hits and one walk. Hunter Shuffield then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed three walks while striking out one batter. Then, to finish the game, Jason Burnett pitched one inning and issued one run on one hit while striking out one batter.
Petsel also led the hitting attack in the game for Bunceton with a triple and one RBI.
Brayden Doyle, Layne Maddox and Blane Petsel each had one single and one RBI while Dillon Alpers and Hunter Shuffield added one single each and Rylee Knapheide with one RBI.
For Calvary Lutheran, Oxlfey had two hits while Stark, Wehmeyer, Hoff, Reed and Braun added one hit each.
