Seventh grade falls to Bulldogs, 24-12
The LSE Pirates eighth grade football team continued its run of three straight wins by beating the Mexico Bulldogs Tuesday night in Mexico 42-8.
The Pirates, who have given only one touchdown all season in the first half, led Mexico 30-0 at the break and then scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to extend the lead to 42-0.
LSE Pirates football coach Curtis Walk said the kids are really fun to watch. “I’m really proud of the way our offensive line adjusted to the blitz,” Walk said. “We are getting better at the little things and working really hard to keep winning.”
Trevione Coleman led the Pirates with three carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns while completing 4 of 6 passes for 126 yards and one score.
DJ Wesolak finished the game with five carries for 46 yards and three catches for 123 yards and one touchdown. Jamesian McKee had three carries for 40 yards while DaWan Lomax added 13 carries for 10 yards and three touchdowns and Memphis Waibel with one catch for 3 yards.
On defense, Wesolak had 10 solo stops and one sack while Coleman added eight solos and two assisted, McKee with four solos and three assisted, Travis Dell five solos, Lomax four solos and one interception return for 42 yards, Peyton Hahn two solos and one assisted, Cade Schupp three solos and Cameron Ridgeway with two solo stops.
As for the LSE Pirates seventh grade football team, they fell to Mexico 24-12.
The Pirates, dropping to 1-2 on the season, trailed Mexico 8-0 at the half and 16-6 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs outscored LSE 8-6.
Walk said this was a hard loss for the kids because they beat Mexico in every aspect of the game except where it counts. “They fought through a lot of adversity and played extremely well,” Walk said. “These kids are starting to come together and figuring the game out each week.”
Owen Armentrout led the seventh grade Pirates with 10 carries for 96 yards and one touchdown and two catches for 26 yards.
Colby Caton finished the game with six carries for 36 yards and two catches for 21 yards and one score while Mike Deleon had seven carries for 54 yards, Jackson Johns two carries for 5 yards and 3 of 6 passing for 60 yards and one score and Cameron Poulsen with one catch for 13 yards.
On defense, Caton had 10 solo stops and two assisted tackles. Conner Acton finished the game with eight solo stops and two assisted tackles while Trent Maxwell added five solo stops and two sacks, Armentrout with six solo stops and Deleon and Caiden Hazel each with four solo stops.
The LSE Pirates football team will travel to Fulton on Tuesday, Sept. 26th starting at 5 p.m.
