The New Franklin Bulldogs baseball team had a tough night at home on Thursday by losing to the Sturgeon Bulldogs in five innings by a score of 13-0.
The Bulldogs, dropping to 1-11 on the season and 0-4 in the CAC, surrendered one run in the first, three again in the third, one in the fourth and eight in the fifth to suffer the loss.
New Franklin coach Erich Gerding said another humiliating loss, only this time on their home field. “We had nine errors in five innings,” Gerding said. “The highlights on our end would be the pitching we got from Andy and Koy, which is something to hopefully build on so we can move forward in some way. With some more help in the field, combined with a hint of offense, we have a shot. But when we can’t field and we cannot execute with runners on base, then it’s really tough. Right now, the game itself, and our lack of confidence and trust, are our most significant nemesis.”
Andy Neal took the loss on the mound for New Franklin by giving up seven runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out five batters in four-plus innings. Koy Harris then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed six runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one batter.
Crayton Gallatin and Dustin Mehrhoff had the only hits in the game for the Bulldogs, both of which went for singles.
