Finish the day with a record of 2-1

New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball coach Ross Dowell said anytime you get two wins in a tournament it’s a good day.
Such was the case Saturday in the Second annual New Franklin Lady Bulldogs Softball Tournament as New Franklin captured the consolation trophy with a record of 2-1.
While the win improved the Lady Bulldogs record to 3-8 overall, Dowell said the girls did some good things and had to gut out the two wins. “We made some adjustments at the plate, our pitching was solid but all of them worked out of some jams,” Dowell said. “Our pitchers also seemed more confident than they were in Week 1.”
As the No. 7 seed in the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs fell in the opening game against Atlanta by a score of 9-2. Meanwhile, after beating Jamestown 11-6 in a loser’s bracket game, New Franklin came back in the consolation game to beat Community R-6 by a score of 6-5.
In the game against Atlanta, the Lady Bulldogs trailed 2-0 after one and 4-1 after three before giving up three more runs in the fourth and two again in the sixth to suffer the loss.

In the consolation game, New Franklin again trailed early on after giving up one run in the first. Then, after rallying back with four runs in the bottom-half of the third and one in the fifth to go up 5-1, the Lady Bulldogs watched Community R-6 storm back with four runs in the fifth to tie the game at 5-all. However, in the bottom-half of the fifth, New Franklin scored the winning run for a 6-5 victory.
