Pilot Grove junior Samarah Bailey did her part for the Lady Tigers Thursday night at home while hosting the Class 4 Columbia Rock Bridge Bruins.
While picking up her fourth win in the circle in five games this season, Bailey also delivered the game-winning hit with a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the seventh to lift the Lady Tigers past Rock Bridge 6-5.
Pilot Grove coach Neal Bailey said the girls played well all the way around. “The girls are getting comfortable in their positions and are taking good at bats,” Bailey said. “Rock Bridge is a talented team. This is a good win for us and it comes at a good time.”
Needless to say it didn’t look good early on for the Lady Tigers while trailing Rock Bridge 3-0 after the first and 4-1 after 4 1/2. But after tacking on two in the bottom-half of the fifth, Pilot Grove had also trimmed the lead down to one at 5-3. Then, after Rock Bridge plated one run in the top-half of the sixth, Pilot Grove answered with one run to make it 5-4. Bailey then stepped to the plate in the seventh with two on and laced a hard single to right for the game winner.
As for her pitching, the junior hurler pitched all seven innings and struck out 10 batters while giving up five runs on 10 hits and two walks.
Pilot Grove, who improved to 4-3 on the season, also matched Rock Bridge with 10 hits in the game, with Sasha Moore going 2-for-2 with two doubles. Reagan Walker and Emily Schupp each had two singles and one RBI while Natalie Rentel added one double, Bailey with one singles and two RBIs and Melanie Wolfe and Reagan McFatrich each with one single.
For Rock Bridge, Snider went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Pate and White each had two hits.
