The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team had the perfect start in the Central Activities Conference Friday night by blanking the Sturgeon Lady Bulldogs by a score of 5-0.
Pilot Grove, improving to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the CAC, led from the start against Sturgeon and plated two runs in each of the first and third innings of play and one again in the fourth.
Pilot Grove softball coach Neal Bailey said it was a good bounce back win for the Lady Tigers. “We have been a little up and down so far this season, but this was our best balanced game yet,” Bailey said. “The girls are becoming comfortable in their roles defensively and had good plate appearances offensively.”
Junior Samarah Bailey picked up the win in the circle for Pilot Grove, improving her record to 3-1 overall. In seven innings pitched, Bailey struck out 14 batters and gave up just one hit and one walk. Wilson took the loss in the circle for Sturgeon.
Bailey also led the hitting attack for Pilot Grove with a single and a double. Emily Schupp also had two hits, both being singles, while Melanie Wolfe added a home run and two RBIs, Sasha Moore with one single and one RBI and Reagan Walker and Hailey Lawrence each with one single.
