The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team had a productive weekend by finishing third in the gold bracket in the annual Holden Eagles Fall Fiesta Volleyball Tournament.
Of course the Lady Pirates couldn’t have started any better in pool play by finishing 2-0-1. In the first match, Boonville split with Holden 28-26, 20-25. Meanwhile, in the second match, the Lady Pirates won in two straight against Knob Noster 25-23 and 25-22. Then, in the final game in pool play, Boonville beat Sherwood in two straight 25-14 and 25-21.
While advancing to bracket play in the gold division, the Lady Pirates defeated Ft. Osage in two straight 28-26 and 25-23 before losing to Adrian in the semifinal round in two straight 21-25 and 16-25.
Boonville volleyball coach Morgan Sprigg said the girls played well in the tournament.
“They kept it together and fought hard at times to win a match,” Sprigg said. “I saw a lot of  fighting back and hustling on our side. I was impressed how we worked together on our side and played smart. There were times that we would make some dumb mistakes, but for the most part they played well. There were a lot of good things that we managed to do and I am proud of getting third in the gold bracket. I do believe that we could have been in the championship match, but we let our mistakes get ahead of us and we seem to get worn out that last match. All and I think the girls did a great job today. Everyone played very well. I think that Brynn Edwards and Hana Cook had a great offensive day and they could not have done it without Shayann Potter’s great sets. Their hitting was extremely powerful and hard to pick up. They scored most of our points today. Shayann Potter also did well getting to the ball and running an offense out of it. Like I said I was proud of the girls today and their accomplishments.”
Senior Brynn Edwards led the Lady Pirates with 39 digs, 32 kills on 113 attack attempts along with 18 service points with two aces, 11 blocks and four assists.
Shayann Potter had 91 assists along with two digs, 21 service points with two aces, four kills on 11 attack attempts and one block. Dana Lester finished the tournament with 28 service points along with 22 kills on 61 attack attempts, 11 digs and two blocks while Kelsey Bishop added 15 digs, 13 service points with three aces, eight kills on 51 attack attempts and two blocks, Lawren Luscombe with 19 service points with four aces, 15 kills on 43 attack attempts and six digs, Hana Cook with 14 kills on 53 attack attempts, eight service points with two aces and one block, Brianna Walker with 20 digs, three kills on seven attack attempts and one assist, MJ Goff with 22 digs, six attack attempts and one service point, Jodie Bass with 17 digs, four attack attempts and one assist, Lily Terrell with six digs and one kill on one attack attempt, Makayia West with two kills on three attack attempts, one service point and one dig and Sophie Waibel and Kennedy Renfrow each with one attack attempt.
