The Boonville Lady Pirates JV softball team finished 1-2 in the Hickman Kewpie JV Tournament over the weekend in Columbia.
While finishing 1-1 in pool play, the Lady Pirates dropped their opening game against Warrenton 9-8 but then bounced back to beat Louisiana in the second game 10-5. Meanwhile, in bracket play against the second place finisher from the other pool, Boonville fell to the Lady Panthers by a score of 15-0.
Boonville JV coach Caitlin Holman said this weekend was a learning experience for the young team. “We came out and accomplished some of our goals for the weekend,” Holman said. “The girls made some heads up plays defensively and were more confident at the plate. We will come out Tuesday to take on Marshall on their field.”
In the opening game against Warrenton, Boonville led 8-4 after 3 1/2 before giving up five runs in the bottom-half of the fourth to suffer the loss.
Brooke Eichelberger took the loss in the circle for Boonville by giving up nine runs on four hits and seven walks while striking out four batters in 3 1/3 innings.
Boonville also out-hit Warrenton 9-4 despite the loss, with Daylynn Baker going 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs. Alexis Albin also had two singles while Lydia Morris added a double and two RBIs, Ali Taylor with a RBI-single, Alexis Trigg, Bryanna Jones and Taylor Simmons each with one single, Becky Evans with two RBIs and Brooke Eichelberger with one RBI.
In the game against Louisiana, the Lady Pirates led throughout and took a 6-4 lead into the fifth before adding four more runs.
Alexis Albin picked up the win in the circle for Boonville by giving up four runs on just one hit and nine walks while striking out one batter in 4 1/3 innings.
Boonville also out-hit Lousiana 10-5, Brooke Eichelberger going 2-for-4 with a single, home run and one RBI. Andrea Jackson also had two hits, both being singles, while Bryanna Jones and Ali Taylor added one single and two RBIs each, Lydia Morris with one single and one RBI, Alexis Albin and Alexis Trigg each with one single and Daylynn Baker with one RBI.
In the final game against Centralia, the Lady Pirates couldn’t buy a hit or run for that matter while failing to score in only three innings of play.
Brooke Eichelberger took the loss in the circle for Boonville by giving up four runs on one hit and five walks in 1/3 inning. Alexis Albin then came in and pitched 2/3 inning and allowed eight runs on two hits and four walks while striking out one batter. Then, to finish the game, Taryn Johnson pitched two innings and issued three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one batter.
Andrea Jackson and Taryn Johnson had the only two hits in the game for Boonville, both of which went for singles.
