The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team snapped a four-game skid Thursday night on the road by beating the Slater Wildcats by a score of 14-2.
The Lady Bulldogs, improving to 1-4 on the season, opened the game with two runs in the top-half of the first and then sent five runs across in the second, four again in the fourth and three in the fifth to win by the mercy rule.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said it was good to get in the win column. “This was our first conference win,” Dowell said. “Offensively, we made some adjustments against some good pitching. I also thought Lauren Evans threw better tonight and we should have thrown a shutout but we gave them seven outs in the fifth. Overall, a good team performance, though.”
Lauren Evans picked up the win in the circle for New Franklin by giving up just two runs on one hit and five walks while striking out one.
New Franklin also out-hit Slater 9-1, with Kacie White going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Lauren Evans also had two hits with two singles and four RBIs while Shelby Breshears added two singles and one RBI, Grace Hundley with one double, Isabelle Matney and Kayce Hundley each with one single and Madison Matney, Sydney Dowell and Alexia Sprick each with one RBI.
Perrin had the only hit in the game for Slater, being a single.
