The Boonville Pirates 9th-10th grade football team fell in the season opener Thursday night at the BHS Sports Complex against the Moberly Spartans by a score of 26-8.
Boonville assistant coach Joe Henke said the Pirates lone score on the night came from sophomore Peyton Keeran’s 3-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion.
“I thought this was a typical first game of the JV season,” Henke said. “We have several kids that we are working in a game situation for the first time and there are going to be some mistakes made. I thought we came out a little nervous in the first quarter and just did not execute all that well. I am proud of the way the boys responded to a physical Moberly team. We were able to fix a few of our tackling problems and responded with a very nice 98 yards drive to get the game close in the first half at 12-8. All in all, we are pleased with the effort but have many areas to improve on.”
Boonville’s JV football team will host the Marshall Owls on Monday, August 28th starting at 6 p.m.
