The Boonville 9-year-old All-Stars had a good day in the opening round of the Cal Ripken State Tournament in Cape Girardeau by beating Kennett 19-4 in four innings.
The Boonville 9 All-Stars, who will play MABA American today at 12:30 p.m., wasted little time getting out ahead of Kennett by pushing across four runs in the first and three again in the second to make it 7-0. However, in the top-half of the third, Boonville all but sealed the victory by exploding for 11 runs to extend the lead to 18-0.
Kennett, meanwhile, scored all four of its runs in the bottom-half of the third to cut the lead to 14 at 18-4. Then, in the fourth, Boonville plated another run to win by the mercy rule.
Jailyn Patel picked up the win on the mound for Boonville. In two innings, Patel struck out three batters and gave up just one hit. Aiden Rapp then came in and pitched 1/3 inning in relief and allowed four runs on one hit and three walks. Then, to finish the game, Payton Oeth pitched 1 2/3 innings and struck out three batters while giving up one hit.
Boonville also out-hit Kennett 18-3, with Payton Oeth going 3-for-4 with two singles, one home run and two RBIs. Clayton Schuster finished the game with three singles and two RBIs while Logan Conz added one single, a grand slam home run and four RBIs, Lucas Schuster with a single, triple and three RBIs, Aiden Rapp with one single, one double and two RBIs, Brooks Poulsen with one single, one double and one RBI, Jailyn Patel with one double and one RBI and Kailen Vaca, Shawn Beach-Reasons and Baylor Jackson each with one single and one RBI.
