The Boonville 10-year-old All-Stars had both good and bad over the weekend during the Cal Ripken State Tournament in Carthage.
While finishing 2-2 in the tournament, the Boonville 10 All-Stars came up one game short of advancing to bracket play on Sunday.
As for the good, the Boonville 10 All-Stars had a great start Thursday in the opening round by beating Carl Junction 15-5. However, in the final game later that night, Boonville to Carthage in a close game by a score of 8-5. Then, on Friday, the Boonville 10 All-Stars dropped its second game of the tournament by losing to Mineral Area American 8-0. The Boonville 10 All-Stars also had one game on Saturday and came away with the victory by beating Kennett 11-5.
In the opening game against Carl Junction, Boonville exploded for six runs in the bottom-half of the first and then sent two runs across in the second, one again in the third and six in the fourth to win by the mercy rule. Carl Junction, meanwhile, put up two runs in the first and three in the third.
Luis Green picked up the win on the mound for Boonville by striking out five batters in two innings. Green also gave up three runs on two hits and two walks. Josh Barber then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
The Boonville 10 All-Stars also out-hit Carl Junction 8-4, with Connor Wilmsmeyer going 3-for-3 with two singles, one triple and two RBIs.
Beau Walker finished the game with a single, double and one run scored while Dakota Troost added a double and two runs scored, D’Avion Jones with a single, one RBI and three runs scored, Luis Green and Evan Bishop each with a RBI-single, Trenton Schoen with one single and two runs scored, Rhad Leathers with one RBI and Zack Espey with one run scored.
In the second game, the Boonville 10 All-Stars trailed the entire game Carthage while giving up three runs in the third and five again in the fifth. However after four complete innings, Boonville trailed Carthage by just one run at 3-2. Unfortunately for the 10 All-Stars, they never got any closer in the ballgame as Carthage came back and exploded for five runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 8-2. Then, in the top-half of the sixth, Boonville added three more runs.
Trenton Schoen took the loss on the mound in relief for Boonville. Evan Bishop started the game and pitched the first-two innings, giving up just two walks while striking out five. Schoen then came in and pitched two innings in relief and yielded three runs on two hits and five walks while striking out one batter. Then, to finish the game, Connor Wilmsmeyer pitched one inning and allowed five runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
Boonville also out-hit Carthage 6-3 despite the loss. Wilmsmeyer and Leathers each had two singles and one RBI to lead all hitters. Troost finished the game with a home run and one RBI while Schoen added one triple, Jones with a RBI-single and Jaeshua Barber with one single.
In Game 3 against MABA American, the Boonville 10 All-Stars could never get going offensively while managing just two hits in six innings.
MABA American, meanwhile, opened the game with four runs in the top-half of the first and then sent one run across in the third, two again in the fourth and one in the sixth for the victory.
Jaeshua Barber took the loss on the mound for Boonville by giving up seven runs on eight hits and one walk in 3 1/3 innings. Barber also struck out one batter. Evan Bishop then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and walked one batter while striking out five. Then, to finish the game, Rhad Leathers pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit.
As for the two hits in the game for Boonville, Connor Wilmsmeyer and Cooper Pfeiffer each had one single.
In the final game on Saturday against Kennett, the Boonville 10 All-Stars jumped out to stay by pushing across three runs in the first and two again in the third to go up 5-0. Kennett, meanwhile, rallied back with one run in the bottom-half of the third and three again in the fourth to cut the lead to one at 5-4. However it was too much Boonville in the final two innings as the 10 All-Stars outscored Kennett 6-1 for the victory.
Luis Green was the winning pitcher in the game for Boonville. Green pitched the first-three innings and struck out three batters while giving up one run on two hits. Evan Bishop then came in and pitched three innings in relief and allowed four runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six.
Dakota Troost led the hitting attack in the game for Boonville with a single, double and one RBI. Troost also scored three runs.
Trenton Schoen finished the game with one double, one RBI and two runs scored while Beau Walker added a single, RBI and one run scored, Cooper Pfeiffer and Rhad Leathers each with one single and one run scored, Gage Hodges with one single, Connor Wilmsmeyer with two runs scored and Zeke Pritchett with one run scored.
