New Franklin’s Madison Maupin received the thrill of a liftetime twice. While meeting the Chick-Fil-A cow for the first time,  Maupin also received $1,000 after being selected as the first Scholar Athlete of the Year.  
This is the first ever award that the Columbia Chick-Fil-A has given out.
Maupin, three sport standout in softball, basketball and track, finished her senior year at New Franklin with a cumulative GPA is 3.86/4.0 with a class rank of 2/27.  She was also the Salutatorian for the Class of 2017.  She will be continuing her softball career at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, where she will be majoring in Athletic Training.
Maupin started on the varsity softball team as a freshman. However, as a sophomore, she had a batting average  of .340. Her junior year, she led the team with a batting average of .440 and had 32 singles, which placed her third on the list for most singles in New Franklin High School history. Her senior year she finished her career hitting .387 with 86 hits with 77 singles, two doubles, five triples, two home runs and 36 RBIs.  She also stole 43 bases and finished with an on-base percentage of .341 and a slugging percentage of .653.  
She was on the CAC All-Conference Team, All-District, All-Region and Academic All-Sate Team.  She was also part of the fourth place state softball team her freshman year.
As a member of the New Franklin track team, Maupin placed third at districts, second at sectionals and eighth at the MSHSAA Class 1 State Championships in the 100-meter dash. She was also a member of the 4 x 100 relay team that placed first at districts, first at sectionals and fifth at state. Meanwhile, in the 4 x 200 relay, Maupin was part of a team that placed second at districts, first at sectionals and sixth at state. Her 4 x 400 relay placed third at districts, third at sectionals and ninth at state.
The 4 x 400 relay also broke the New Franklin School record three times with a final time of 4:22.65.
As a sophomore year, she placed third at districts, third at sectionals and fifth at state in the 100-meter dash. She also placed third at districts, second at sectionals and sixth at state in the 200-meter dash. She also tied New Franklin School 200 time at 27.05 seconds. In addition, Maupin was also part of the 4 x 200 relay team that placed first at districts, first at sectionals and sixth at state.
Her junior year, she placed fifth at districts in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and was part of the 4 x 100 relay team that placed first at districts and second at sectionals.  
Her senior year, she was a member of the 4 x 100 relay that placed third at districts, first at sectionals and 11th at state.  Also her 4 x 200 relay team placed third at districts, second at sectionals and eighth at state.
Maupin is involved in other school-related activities as well. She is president of National Honor Society, FBLA member and participated at Missouri Girls State in 2016. She has also been a Student Cadet Teacher for fifth grade as a junior and first grade as a senior. Also as a senior she was selected to EBMO "AAA Award" winner.

Madison will receive a $1,000 scholarship towards furthering her education. Madison has had a great senior year participating in softball, basketball, and track and has held an impressive GPA of 3.8,” said a spokesperson for Chick-fil-A.
