Shelter Insurance picked up two wins last week in Little League softball at New Franklin by beating Exchange Bank and GKC-CPA’s by the scores of 14-10 and 23-3, respectively.
While playing player pitch in the first game and machine pitch in the second, Shelter Insurance broke a 10-10 tie after two complete innings by pushing across four runs in the top-half of the third against Exchange Bank.
Lily Chitwood picked up the win in the circle for Shelter Insurance while Carly Dorson took the loss for Exchange Bank. Chitwood pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and gave up just one hit while striking out one batter. Dorson, meanwhile, pitched all three innings and allowed 14 runs on one hit and 17 walks while striking out three batters.
Lily Kaullen had the only hit in the game for Shelter Insurance, being a single.
For Exchange Bank, who out-hit Shelter Insurance 6-1, Carly Dorson tripled while Ella Oser doubled. Addy Salmon, Tatum Hoover, Elaina Henderson and Natalie Curry each had one single.
In the second game, Shelter Insurance led GKC-CPA’s from start to finish by reeling off 17 unanswered runs in the first-four innings.
Rylee Mehrhoff led the hitting attack in the game for Shelter Insurance with three singles, two doubles and one triple. Lily Chitwood and Sophia Held each had four singles and two doubles while Lydia Burnett added four singles, one double and one triple, Heaven Hundley with five singles and one double, Gracia Evans with five singles, Lily Kaullen with four singles and Canna Jennings with two singles.
For GKC-CPA’s, Makenzie Martin and Skylar Greenwood each had three singles while Natalie Wiseman added two singles and Gracie Martin and Natalie Caszatt with one single each.
