The Boonville Babe Ruth 8U and 14U All-Stars gave it their best shot over the weekend while competing in the Babe Ruth State Tournament in Advance, Missouri.
While both teams 1-2 in the tournament, the Boonville 8U All-Stars competed against six other teams in the double-elimination tournament while the Boonville 14U All-Stars faced only three other teams.
Needless to say it was a rough start for the Boonville 8U All-Stars, as they fell to Mineral Area  Bandits in the opening round on Friday by a score of 13-7.
Although Boonville 8U All-Stars led 2-1 after two innings it was an uphill battle after that as the MABA Bandits held a 12-5 advantage for the rest of the game.
Elizabeth Eichelberger and Emmerson Comegys each had three hits in the game for Boonville while Katelyn Drummond, Alycia Felgar and Kinlei Ruffel added two singles and Cecelia Gaddis, Hillary James, Ellise Kirchner and Emma Pfeiffer with one single apiece.
The Boonville 8U All-Stars had a little more success on Saturday by beating Tross 11-5.
In that game, the Boonville 8U All-Stars led Tross 4-3 after one and 7-3 after four before giving up two runs in the top-half of the fifth. However, in the bottom-half of the same inning, the Boonville 8U All-Stars plated four more runs to garner the victory.
Katelyn Drummond led the hitting attack in the game for Boonville with four singles. Emma Pfeiffer had three singles while Alycia Felgar, Emmerson Comegys, Cecelia Gaddis and Kenlei Ruffel added two singles each and Elizabeth Eichelberger, Isabel Alvizo and Hillary James with one single apiece.
In the next game against the MABA Bandits, the Boonville 8U All-Stars again took it on the chin by a score of 14-9.
The Boonville 8U All-Stars led 9-7 after four complete innings before seven runs in the top-half of the sixth to suffer the loss.
Ceclia Gaddis had three singles in the game for Boonville while Katelyn Drummond, Isabel Alvizo, Emme Comegys and Hillary James added two singles each and Elizabeth Eichelberger, Alycia Felgar, Emma Pfeiffer, Kenlei Ruffel and Jaden Ronnfeldt each with one single.
As for the Boonville 14U All-Stars, they finished pool play at 0-1-1 by tying Heartland 5-5 in the first game and then losing to Advance 4-0 in the second.
In the first game in pool play, Cassidy Bishop doubled while Carson Dee, Logan Root, Alexis Trigg and Brooke Stone each single.
Logan Root took the loss in the circle despite striking out six batters in three innings.
In the second game in pool play, Brooke Eichelberger took the loss in the circle while Logan Root had the team’s only hit with a single.
Meanwhile, in bracket play, Boonville defeated Heartland 8-2 on Friday behind the three hit game of Alexis Trigg.
Logan Root picked up the win in the circle for Boonville by giving up just two runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out six batters.
Root also had two hits in the game along with Zoey Laster and Alexis Sprick while Cara Bishop doubled and Carson Dee, Daylynn Baker and Brooke Stone each singled. Dee also drove in two runs.
In the second game, Sikeston defeated Boonville 4-2.
Root took the loss in the circle for Boonville by giving up four runs on four hits and seven walks while striking out seven batters.
Dee, Root, Laster and Sprick also had one hit each in the game for Boonville, who rallied back to tie the game at 2-all in the top-half of the fifth before giving up two in the bottom-half of the inning.
In the final game, Heartland avenged an earlier loss by beating Boonville 5-1.
The Boonville 14U All-Stars scored its only run of the ballgame in the top-half of the sixth while giving up one in the first and three again in the fourth to Heartland.
Root took the loss by giving up five runs on six hits and four walks in six innings. Root also struck out four batters.
As for the hitting in the game for Boonville, Root, Sprick, Brooke Stone and Brooke Eichelberger each had one single.
