It take long for Huebert Fiberboard to assert itself Tuesday night in the Cal Ripken Minor Postseason Tournament at the COCOBA ballfield.
After winning 13-3 on Sunday in the first of three games, Huebert Fiberboard came back on Tuesday with the sweep by beating Tint Shop in two games 10-0 in four innings and 7-5 in three innings.
Huebert Fiberboard, who was also the championship in league play, wasted little time getting out in front of Tint Shop in Game 1 by pushing across two runs in the first and six again in the second to make it 8-0. Meanwhile, after a scoreless third inning, Huebert Fiberboard added two more runs in the fourth to win by the mercy rule.
Luis Green picked up the win on the mound for Huebert Fiberboard while Beau Walker took the loss for Tint Shop. Green started the game and pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up just two hits and three walks while striking out eight batters. Isaac Watring then came in and pitched 1/3 inning in relief and struck out one batter.
For Tint Shop, Walker pitched all three innings and gave up 10 runs on 12 hits while striking out four batters.
Huebert Fiberboard also out-hit Tint Shop 12-2, with Connor Wilmsmeyer going 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
Thomas Elliott and Luis Green each had a single, double and two RBIs while Trenton Schoen added two singles, Isaac Watring with one single and one RBI and Cash Leonard, Logan Conz and Grayson Esser each with one single.
For Tint Shop, Alec Schupp and Quinten Knipp each had one single.
In the second game, Huebert Fiberboard again jumped out in front with four runs in the first and three again in the second to extend the lead to 7-0. However, in the bottom-half of the second, Tint Shop rallied back with five runs to cut the lead to two at 7-5. Unfortunately for Tint Shop, they never got any closer in the ballgame while failing to score in the third inning.
Trenton Schoen was the pitcher of record in the game for Huebert Fiberboard while Alec Schupp took the loss for Tint Shop. Schoen pitched just one inning and gave up two hits while striking out one. Cash Leonard then came in and pitched 1/3 inning in relief and allowed four runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one. Meanwhile, after Logan Conz pitched 1/3 inning and gave up one run on two walks, Connor Wilmsmeyer came in and pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out four batters while giving up two walks.
For Tint Shop, Alec Schupp pitched the first-two innings and gave up seven runs on three hits and seven walks while striking out one. Zack Espey then came in and pitched one inning in relief and struck out one batter.
Connor Wilmsmeyer had the only extra base hit in the game for Huebert Fiberboard, being a double. Wilmsmeyer also drove in two runs. Luis Green had one single and two RBIs while Connor Gorman added one single and one RBI.
For Tint Shop, who had four hits in the game, Zack Espey went 2-for-2 with two singles and two RBIs while Lucas Schuster added one single and one RBI, Logan Turk with one single and Lucas Joy with one RBI.
