You can’t fault Vollmer Farms for effort Monday night while facing Fayette in Babe Ruth 12U softball at Rolling Hills park.
Although Vollmer Farms dropped both games, they still managed to put up nine runs in the opening game before losing by a score of 21-9. Vollmer Farms forfeited the second game.
Of course it didn’t help that Vollmer Farms gave up five runs in the first or 16 in the second to trail Fayette 21-0. However, in the top-half of the third, Vollmer Farms rallied back with nine runs to avoid the shutout.
Preslee Sunderland picked up the win in the circle for Fayette while Kasie Northern took the loss for Vollmer Farms. Sunderland pitched the first-three innings and struck out seven batters while giving up five runs on one hit and seven walks. Megan Lewis then came in and pitched part of the third and allowed four runs on four walks.
For Vollmer Farms, Northern pitched one inning and surrendered 12 runs on two hits and nine walks while striking out two. Mary Yung then came in and pitched one inning in relief and yielded nine runs on three hits and seven walks.
Fayette also out-hit Vollmer Farms 5-1, with Megan Lewis going 2-for-2 with one single, one double and four RBIs.
Preslee Sunderland also had two hits with two singles and one RBI while Jenny Kunze added one double and one RBI, Madi Lawson with two RBIs and Hannah Quint, Addison Newell, Leah Lembke and Kenzie Felton each with one RBI.
For Vollmer Farms, Katera Boneparte had one single and one RBI.
Babe Ruth 12U softball will continue on Thursday with Fuemmeler Furniture Refinishings playing Fayette in a doubleheader at 6 and 8 p.m.
