Schlotzhauer Auto didn’t make it easy on the Boonville Daily News Thursday night in the first game in Cal Ripken Minor at the COCOBA ballfield.
Trailing 9-7 going into the bottom-half of the sixth inning, Boonville Daily News rallied back with three runs to beat Schlotzhauer Auto by a score of 10-9.
In the nightcap, Axis Seed led Huebert Fiberboard from the fourth inning on en route to a 19-5 victory.
Boonville Daily News, improving to 2-3 on the season, opened the first-two innings against Schlotzhauer Auto with six runs to go up 6-0. However, in the top-half of the third, Schlotzhauer Auto rallied back with four runs to cut the lead to two at 6-4. Meanwhile, after Boonville Daily News plated another run in its half of the third, Schlotzhauer Auto came back and tacked on one in the fifth and four in the sixth to go up 9-7. Unfortunately for Schlotzhauer Auto, Boonville Daily News had the final at bat and made the most of the situation by pushing across three runs for the victory.
Brooke Poulsen picked up the win on the mound for Boonville Daily News while Kailen Vaca took the loss for Schlotzhauer Auto. Poulsen pitched 2/3 inning in relief and gave up one run on one hit while striking out one batter. Zeke Pritchett started the game for BDN and pitched 2 1/3 innings before giving way to Darrin Leonard, who pitched three innings.
For Schlotzhauer Auto, Vaca pitched 1 1/3 innings and yielded seven runs on four hits and five walks while striking out two. Jaeshua Barber also pitched four innings in relief.
As for the hitting in the game for Boonville Daily News, Shawn Beach-Reasons went 2-for-3 with one triple. Darrin Leonard added a double and one RBI while Collin Cramer had one single and two RBIs, Jamal Franklin with one single and one RBI and Haden Oliver with one single.
For Schlotzhauer Auto, Jaeshua Barber went 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBIs. D’Avion Jones was 2-for-3 with one double and four RBIs while Dylan Kosky added one single and Edison Baker and Leland McClelland each with one RBI.
In the nightcap, Huebert Fiberboard led things off with two runs in the bottom-half of the first only to have Axis Seed rally back with two in the third, nine in the fourth and eight in the fifth to win by the mercy rule.
Evan Bishop picked up the win on the mound for Axis Seed, who improved to 4-2, while Connor Wilmsmeyer took the loss for Huebert Fiberboard, who dropped to 5-2 overall. Bishop pitched 3 2/3 innings and struck out seven batters while giving up three runs on three hits and one walk. Aiden Rapp then came in and pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and allowed two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one.
For Huebert Fiberboard, Luis Green started and pitched the first-two innings. Trenton Schoen then came in and pitched one inning in relief before giving way to Wilmsmeyer, who pitched one inning and issued 11 runs on four hits and six walks while striking out one. Logan Conz then came in and pitched one inning in relief to closeout the game.
Axis Seed also out-hit Huebert Fiberboard 12-4, with Aiden Rapp going 3-for-4 with three singles.
Cooper Pfeiffer was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBIs while Clayton Schuster added two singles and six RBIs, Seth Thomas with two singles and three RBIs, Noah Remlinger and Michael Shady each with one single and two RBIs and Evan Bishop with one single and one RBI.
For Huebert Fiberboard, Connor Wilmsmeyer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Trenton Schoen finished the game with one double while Luis Green added one single and two RBIs.
