The Bunceton boys and girls basketball team fell Monday night at home against the New Bloomfield Wildcats by the scores of 82-29 and 76-24, respectively.
The Lady Dragons, who dropped to 12-8 on the season, trailed New Bloomfield from the opening tip as the Lady Wildcats led 26-6 after one, 44-15 at the half and 68-21 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, with a running clock in place in the final period, New Bloomfield again outscored Bunceton 8-3 for the win.
Bunceton coach Mitch Hurt said the Lady Dragons had a very poor shooting night against New Bloomfield.
“The Lady Wildcats were hitting at a crisp 48 percent from the field,” Hurt said. “Going forward we have to figure out how to manufacture points and not worry about missed shots.
Baxter and Craighead each had 13 points in the game for New Bloomfield.
For Bunceton, Rachel Lenz finished the game with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Lauren Wieland also had seven points and seven rebounds while Cara Bishop added four points, two rebounds and one steal, Chloe Moser with three points and three rebounds, Emily Clevenger with two points, three rebounds and two assists, Taylor Burnett with two points, four rebounds and one assist and Skyler Shuffield with four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
As for the Bunceton boys, they trailed New Bloomfield 52-9 at the half and 69-22 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, the Wildcats outscored Bunceton 13-7.
Coach Hurt said a very solid performance by New Bloomfield.
“They had plenty of good shooters and a good inside presence,” Hurt said. “Their press bothered us for a while, however, we found a way through it. It was a tough night all around. We will try to learn from it and move on.”
Jak Kitchens led the scoring attack in the game for New Bloomfield with 24 points.
For Bunceton, who dropped to 2-17 on the season, Blake Petsel finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Jordon Angermayer had seven points and four rebounds while Brayden Doyle added six points, 10 rebounds, one steal and one assist, Dylan Flatt with four points, Eli Pearcy with two points, two rebounds and one assist, Riley Layne with two rebounds and Rylee Knapheide with one rebound.
Bunceton boys and girls will play next on Saturday, Feb. 11th against Christian Academy in Maranatha, Kansas starting at 10:30 a.m.
