Boonville senior baseball player Zach Ruffel knew at the end of the 2007 season that he wanted to continue his career playing baseball at the next level.

While starting the last-three years for the Boonville Pirates baseball team, Ruffel more than exceeded his expectations not to mention his coach’s by leading the team in hitting as a sophomore and junior.

Boonville Cal Ripken President Mike Watts said the Minor League games last night that were cancelled due to inclement weather have been re-scheduled for Saturday, May 10th at 9 and 11 a.m.

The Prairie Home Panthers baseball team could have packed up its bags after falling behind Smithton 10-2 after three complete innings Tuesday night at Prairie Home.

Instead the Panthers rallied back with six runs in the top-half of the fifth to cut the lead to two at 10-8. Then, after Smithton plated two more runs in the bottom-half of the fifth, Prairie Home tacked on four more runs to tie the game at 12-all.

By beating the Oak Grove Panthers last week by a score of 12-8, the Boonville Pirates baseball team may have set themselves up for bigger and better things come district time Saturday at Twillman Field in Harley Park.

As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, the Pirates also clinched at least a tie for the MRVC title by beating the Panthers. However, in a head-to-head game Monday night between Oak Grove and Pleasant Hill, the Panthers basically handed Boonville the title by beating the Roosters by a score of 10-9 in 10 innings.

Seven members of the Boonslick Heartland YMCA Blue Marlins swim team combined for a total of 16 personal bests while competing in the Capital City Invitational on May 2-4 in Jefferson city.

On Saturday, May 10th at Marshall High School, a total of eight athletes from the Boone’s Lick area will embark on the Class 1 Sectional 3 Track Meet with a chance to move on to the Missouri State High School Track & Field Championships in Jefferson City on May 23-24.

In order to qualify for sectionals, athletes had to place in the top four in their respective event during the district track meet held last weekend at various sites throughout the state.

The LSE boys and girls eighth grade track teams couldn’t have asked for a better way to closeout the 2008 season while competing at Carrollton back on Monday, April 28th.
While the Hawk boys finished seventh overall with 26 points, the LSE girls eighth grade track team placed 10th overall with 7 points.

Not knowing about the teams they were about to face may have been the best thing that could have happened to the Boonville Pirates freshmen baseball team in the Lebanon JV Tournament back on Saturday, April 26th.

Although the Pirates went into the Lebanon JV Tournament not knowing what to expect against teams like Mountain Grove, Waynesville and Lebanon, they more than welcomed the challenge by beating all three teams in convincing fashion to capture the championship.

New Franklin's baseball team dropped two games last night by losing to Sacred Heart and Sedalia Smith-Cotton's JV by the scores of 14-13 and 23-0, respectively.

For four innings last night at Pilot Grove, the Fayette Falcons baseball team had the Tigers thinking about a possible upset with the score knotted at 0-0.

With just one game left in the regular season today against the Knob Noster Panthers, Boonville Pirates baseball coach Tim Edwards couldn’t have asked for a better start to the week than last night’s 12-2 drubbing of the Southern Boone Eagles.

While the Eagles will enter Saturday’s district tournament at Boonville as the No. 4 seed, they were no match after the first inning as the Pirates reeled off 10 unanswered runs to improve to 16-2 overall.

A-Bow-K scored early and often last night against P&C Trucking in Babe Ruth 14-and-under softball by exploding for 18 runs in the first en route to a 20-3 victory.
A-Bow-K led P&C Trucking 18-1 after one and 18-3 after two before pushing two more runs across in the bottom-half of the third for the victory.
