In a battle of in-two rivals, the Pilot Grove girls fifth and sixth grade basketball team defeated St. Joseph Pilot Grove on Monday in Pilot Grove by a score of 14-7.

In a rematch of the championship game in the Pilot Grove Swimming Pool Tournament last weekend, the Pilot Grove boys fifth and sixth grade basketball team made it two in a row against Ss. Peter & Paul with a 23-10 victory.

Boonville Athletic Director Chris Shikles said this morning that the girl’s game tonight between the California Pintos and Boonville Lady Pirates has been cancelled due to the weather and will not be made up.

The Boonville boys junior varsity basketball team salvaged the third-place game in the Mexico JV Tournament last night by beating the North Callaway Thunderbirds by a score of 62-51.

In the championship game last night, the Mexico Bulldogs beat the Fulton Hornets in overtime by a score of 56-49.

To move up in the North Central Missouri Conference, or at least to keep the No. 4 spot, the Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team had to win last night’s game on the road against the Marshall Lady Owls.

Having already beaten the Lady Owls earlier in the season at home by double figures, the Lady Pirates looked to be a good bet to come out of the game with a victory.

North Central Missouri College pitcher Claire Lorenz recently signed a softball letter of intent with Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Lorenz, a graduate of Pilot Grove High School, finished the spring season last year with a record of 17-8 overall with an ERA of 2.48.

Boonville's Andrew Broyhill, Kole Ficken, Remington Hammers and Ben and Gabe Rumbaoa, representing the Eierman Elite Wrestling Club, participated in the Kirksville Youth Wrestling Tournament held this past Saturday.

For the second time in as many matches the Boonville Pirates wrestling team had the kind of match to forget last night on the road against the Kirksville Tigers.

Schools which are included in the honor roll are Boonville, New Franklin, Pilot Grove, Prairie Home, Bunceton, and Glasgow.

The St. Paul’s girls basketball team handed Pilot Grove its fifth loss of the season in overtime Tuesday night at Pilot Grove.

The Lady Tigers, dropping to 14-5 on the season, trailed St. Pauls 22-20 at the half and 37-29 after three quarters of play before rallying back with a 16-8 advantage in the final period to tie the game at 45-all. Meanwhile, in overtime, the Lady Saints outscored Pilot Grove 7-0 for the victory.

If it seems like the Boonville boys junior varsity basketball team has deja vu against the Fulton Hornets, it may have something to do with playing the Hornets for the third time last night in the opening round of the Mexico JV Tournament.

After dropping the first-two games by eight and six points, the Pirates appeared to be well on their way to ending the streak while leading 29-18 at the half. However a 21-3 scoring edge by the Hornets in the third quarter proved to be the difference in a 50-44 loss.

The Boonville Pirates wrestling team didn’t want to go into tonight’s match against the Class 2 defending state champions Kirksville Tigers trying to pick up the pieces from the night before against the Centralia Panthers.

But that’s exactly what the Pirates will do after suffering one of their worst losses of the season last night against Centralia 60-18.

The Boonville Pirates basketball team had one of those games last night against the Hannibal Pirates.

Having already lost at home against Hannibal, the Pirates had high hopes of evening the scored. And for the first quarter it looked like Boonville was well on its way while leading 18-14.

Unfortunately for Boonville, they had the rest of the game to contend with as Hannibal rallied back with a 31-11 scoring edge in the second and never looked back for a 83-45 victory.

Glasgow freshman Reid Littrell had 11 points and three rebounds, and teammate Tyler Sanders added nine points as the Yellowjackets defeated Braymer last night at Glasgow by a score of 46-34.

Prairie Home girls basketball coach Scott Tooley knew his team may have let one get away last night at home against the Otterville Lady Eagles.

While nursing a seven-point lead going into the fourth quarter against the Lady Eagles, Tooley wasn’t counting on his team shooting 1 of 14 from the field. But that’s exactly what happened as Otterville rallied with seven straight points during a minute and 10 stretch and then closed out the game with a three straight points for a 39-36 victory.
