The following is a brief of the story. For the full version, see the Wednesday, Jan. 21 print edition of the BDN.

Fears over peanut butter contaminated with salmonella have led to at least one area school taking extra precautions.

On Tuesday, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School said they were voluntarily removing all peanut butter items from the lunch program, extended care and pre-school programs. One of their suppliers of peanut butter, Diamond Foods, told the school that all of their products tested fine. Another supplier, Springfield Grocer is voluntarily recalling similar products.

Linda Maupin, director of food services for the Boonville school district, said the district has examined their peanut butter supply. Their peanut butter is received from the state. Maupin said she has been assured that their supply is safe. However, Maupin said there were snacks at David Barton that fell under the recall. They have since been removed and are not being served.
